Staff Contacts

Our staff all live on the premises and can be contacted at all times. We do, however, ask that you respect their off times and only contact staff after hours (17:00 – 07:00) in case of an emergency or a late check in.

Further, Jeanine, our guesthouse hostess, lives in the apartment adjacent to the Villa. Jeanine is available to assist you with any queries during work hours or in the event of an emergency outside of work hours.

Navigation

Directions

From George:

    1. Take the N2 towards Mossel Bay.
    2. Exit at the Mossel Bay off-ramp (Board 393).
    3. Turn right at the T-junction.
    4. Drive 2.8 km up the hill.
    5. Look for a large 3-story white house on the left; the villa gate is in front.

From Cape Town:

    1. Take the N2 towards Mossel Bay and continue towards George (do not enter Mossel Bay directly).
    2. Exit at the Mossel Bay off-ramp (Board 393) and follow the same steps as above.

Note: Drive slowly on Aalwyn Road; wildlife (rabbits, tortoises, and buck) often cross the road.

Views and Setting

2.8 km from Langeberg Mall, Ideally situated between Mossel Bay’s main social hubs, Hartenbos and Mossel Bay Town Centre, and close to pristine beaches, mountains, and game reserves.

The Aloe Villa offers 180-degree vistas of the Outeniqua Mountains and Mossel Bay coast. Within our 11 hectare farm are Fynbos-clad hills and grazing pastures.

ACCESS

Gate entrance

Gate: You access the villa from the FIRST gate on the left, as the second goes to the Guest House. 

Box Code: The Gate remote and keys are in the black lockbox at the main gate entrance (Code 3001). Drive along the short farm road and you will find a second remote-controlled gate leading to the house. Use the remote to open this gate as well.

Remote Buttons:

  • White button – opens 1st gate closest to the main road
  • Blue Button – opens 2nd gate at the entrance of the Villa
  • Key – opens front door of villa
Check in

Our official check-in time is 2.00 PM. If you arrive early, you are welcome to store your luggage, and then enter your room as soon as our staff have finished preparing it for you.

Check-out

Checkout time is 10.00 AM. We appreciate if you respect this to ensure the Villa can be made ready for new guests.

Return keys/remotes to Jeannine or Abby or return to the key dropbox at the exit of the Villas road.

Drop box

On the inner left-hand side of the main gate is a Key Dropbox. On checkout, please leave your keys and remote in this dropbox.

Security

Beams

Security System:

The Villa grounds are fitted with security beams that are set each evening from 21h00 to 06h30. The beams connect to our hostess apartment, and should they be activated, our on-site security will be notified and arrive at the Villa to conduct a security sweep.

If you intend to use the grounds between these times, please inform the hostess (Jeanine or Abby) so that we can modify our emergency response should you activate the beams.

Emergency Radio

In cases of emergency, we have an additional measure of an open frequency radio available for guests to contact staff. This radio is located on the bedside in the Villa’s main bedroom. To use – simply press the button on the left-hand side, and speak. Your message will be broadcast to all members of the staff who are available to offer support.

If chatter on the radio is distracting, you can reduce the noise level by twisting the right-hand side knob anti-clockwise – but ensure you turn this back up to

ENTERTAINMENT

Working TV's

We have done our best to make using the TV’s easy, but here are a few directions in case things go ‘South’.

Turning the TV on

Use the ‘Silver’ remotes to turn the TV on. This is achieved by pressing the ‘red’ button on the top. Note – depending on their mood, the TVs can take about 30 seconds to turn fully on.

Turn the ‘Streaming Box’ on. 

Hit the red button on top of the black remote to turn the streaming device on. This also may take 30 seconds or so to come to life.

Once both the TV and streaming device are on, you will be treated to a screen where Netflix, YouTube, and other streaming channels are visible.

Navigation

Use the black remote (only) to navigate between different streaming services such as YouTube, Netflix, YouTube Music. You do not need to touch the silver remote again (apart from turning off the TV). 

Trouble shooting

  • Black screen with HDMI 4 showing – This means the streaming box is not on, hit the streaming red button, or other buttons on the black remote to turn on the streaming box.
  • The coloured screen comes on with ‘smart TV, Live TV, etc. This is the screen for controlling the TV. Use the silver remote to highlight the ‘live TV’ box and click the central button. This will navigate you to the streaming box.
Netflix
  • Netflix can be accessed through your room’s television controllers via one of the three televisions in the Villa
Youtube
  • youtube and youtube music can be accessed through your room’s television controllers via one of the three televisions in the Villa
Toys & Games

 The lounge has board games, sports equipment, and books. Feel free to use them as much as you wish.

Library

Enjoy delving into our extensive book library. It holds many top classics, entertaining children’s books, non-fiction and much more.

Queenie, Lickie, Cutie - The Cats
  • The villa is home to three cats – Queenie (the grey and white), Lickie (the black one), and Cutie (the big Ginger). Usually, the cats are quite shy around strangers, but if you are gentle and kind, they will soon come and say hi.

 

  • You do not need to look after the cats in anyway, they are fed daily by our hostess at the rear of the villa. Please do not feed them any additional food as you will see they are plenty well fed and cared for.

 

  • The cats have access to the main parts of the villa (kitchen, dining, living spaces via cat flaps. If you would like to keep them out of the bedrooms, simply keep these doors closed and only open the high windows.
Kingsley - Giant tortoise
  • The villa is home to a giant tortoise named Kingsley. Whilst he is used to humans, please do not try to touch or lift him. He may turn up, patiently waiting outside the villa on warm days – he is looking for a piece of fruit. You are welcome to sacrifice a chopped-up banana or apple for him.
  • Also, when you reverse your car, please take a minute to check underneath to ensure Kingsley is not sheltering from the heat under there.
Farm Animals

Our lands are an animal sanctuary for all forms of animals and wildlife. On the grounds, you will find goats (8), donkeys (3) horses (1), sheep (10), chickens (30), rabbits (15), tortoises (1),

If you, or your children, would like to meet some of the farm animals, please contact Derreck or Luis and they will be happy to take you on a guided tour to meet and play with our animals.

Linen and Towels

Extra Linen & Beach Towels: Located in the back two cupboards in the main bedroom.

Heaters

Energy-efficient wall panel heaters in bedrooms. Additional blankets and warm bags are available.

Washing

The Villa has a simple washing machine and is equipped with laundry (proback) and staysoft. You are welcome to use the machine. If you would prefer using our laundry service, a wash, dry, fold can be ordered from the hostess at R120 per load.

Meals and Dining

Kitchen
  • Fully Equipped: Includes a gas stove and indoor braai. Contact Luis or Jeannine for assistance.
  • Coffee Machine: SAECO coffee machine available. Use any beans left by previous guests. For help, refer to the manual or ask Derrick.
Coffee Machine
  • You will find the coffee machine in the main kitchen. Step 1 is To use, ensure that water is in the machine and load coffee beans into the top grinder.Step 2. If the machine has not been used for a few hours, hit the centre button to move it out of sleep mode.Step 3. Place a cup under the dispenser and hit the double cup button (lower left side). This will kick the machine into action.Step 4. You can add more hot water or frothed milk. Simply buy using the steamer after your coffee is finished pouring.
Guesthouse breakfast

If you decide to join us for breakfast at the guesthouse, let the hostess know the day before. The cost of breakfast is R150pp, and you can stroll over to the guesthouse at any time between 7 AM and 10 AM.

Organic farm food

On the farm, we grow organic vegetables and have a ready supply of the biggest and tastiest chicken eggs available. If you would like to try some farm food, ask Derreck what is ripe and ready, and we will happily supply you with some.

Braai

Our farmlands are susceptible to brush fires, as such, we have strict rules regarding open fires on the facilitates.

  • We permit braais on our inside braai in the Villa lounge. We require that such braais have a person supervising them at all times and that the fire extinguisher remains nearby.

Order takeout

Mossel Bay has several takeouts in close vicinity to the guesthouse. Several delivery services can also deliver takeout to you in the evenings. Guests are free to use microwaves, cutlery, and dishes for evening meals. We simply ask that you rinse your dishes and place them in the scullery when finished. View takeaway options here

Cleaning equipment

Cleaning Products: Mostly under the sink, with some in the bathroom.

Brooms / mops / vacuum: Are available in the large pantry cupboard in the scullery

Vacuum

Our staff will vacuum and sweep/dust the villa if you request it. Please discuss this with Jeannine or Abby and make arrangements for a suitable time and which days you would like this free service.

Dishwasher

The dishwasher is available. Supplies (rinse-aid and cleaning tablets) in the cupboard above it. The hostess can assist with directions on how to use if needed.

Garbage and recycling

Rubbish Bags: Located in the drawer under the aquarium.

Recycling: There are three bins at the villa’s rear for recycling.

Normal rubbish: Blackbag rubbish is located under the kitchen sink. When full, remove to the large green plastic bin at the rear of the guesthouse.

Rubbish removal: Derrick will remove recycled and normal rubbish on Wednesday mornings at 7:30 a.m.

RULES

Smoking & Vaping

The guesthouse is smoke and vape-free. Smoking and vaping can be done on the numerous balconies around the guesthouse where you can find ashtrays available for your use. 

Pest control

Please do not kill spiders or scorpions if you see them near the house. They are essential for controlling other pests. Ask Derrick to remove them.

There is an electronic bat to kill mosquitoes and flies. Please do not spray any poisons in the house, as this may kill the fish.

Fires

Our farmlands are susceptible to brush fires, as such, we have strict rules regarding open fires on the facilitates.

  • We permit braais on the two dedicated braais at the rear of the guesthouse. We require that such braais have a person supervising them at all times and that the fire extinguisher remains nearby.
  • We permit smoking on the balconies of the guesthouse and require guests to use fireproof ashtrays to dispose of butts.
  • No other open flames are permitted inside or outside of the guesthouse.
Power
  • Power Trips: May occur if multiple appliances are used simultaneously. Contact Luis or Derrick for assistance to reset breakers.

Own Car

Roads to Aalwyndal are narrow and wildlife often cross; drive slowly.

Airport Shuttles

If you require a shuttle to or from George Airport. Our staff can assist you with a shuttle for a cost of R250pp. Please book in advance.

Free Restaurant Shuttles

Mossel Bay offers free pickup and dropoff evening shuttles to a select number of local eateries. To book the shuttle, first book a table at your chosen restaurant (see options below), secondly phone shuttle and tell them the restaurant and time of your booking. Shuttle number –  044 6906390
