OTHER ENTERTAINMENT

Swimming Pool

We have a 35,000L swimming pool to enjoy. During the summer, we manage the pool and keep it at 24 degrees. The pool heating is turned off in the winter, and the water is cool at 14 degrees. You are welcome to use the pool in the winter (for a cold plunge) if you are brave.

SPA Pool
  • Currently the Spa pool is out of commission and preparing to be serviced.
Tennis court

We share a communal outside tennis court/basketball court/Volleyball court with our three neighbours. The court is maintained and cleaned during the summer months, but it does get a layer of moss during the winter.

Tennis rackets, pickleball rackets, and basketballs can be found in the cupboard under the stairs.

Working the TVs!

We have done our best to make using the TV easy, but here are a few directions in case things go ‘South’.

Hit the red button on the top right or the light blue button on the top left of the remote (depending on TV remote style).

All our TVs work via streaming, so hit the home button (like a house) to navigate back to the app home page – from here, simply select the app (Netflix, Apple) that you want to watch and then navigate within the app.

Meals

Food

Paris Place is self-catering, although we welcome you to freely use coffee, tea, sugar, sauces, oils, etc. that are in our cupboards – beware some of the hot sauces – they are HOT!

We will clear some cupboard space and space in the fridge for you before your arrival. If you need more space, an additional fridge is available in our downstairs garage.

Cooking

We offer four facilities for cooking,

  • Stovetop – this is a gas stove, turn selected control knob and press into ignite – hold for a few clicks if the hob does not ignite immediately.
  • Oven – This is a gas oven; simply select the preferred heating style and turn the temperature to the correct level.
  • Air Fryer – Place food into the air fryer, hit the on button, select the basket (1 or 2), select the cooking style (air fryer, max heat, etc.), then select the minutes (up or down). Once selected, hit the start/stop button, and the air fryer will begin.
  • Microwave – turn the knob clockwise to select a time, then hit the start button. To defrost, tap ‘Turbo defrost’, turn the knob to select food weight, and hit the start button.
BBQ facilities

We have a charcoal/wood BBQ on the front deck that is available to use. Please ensure that someone is monitoring the fire at all times. After use, please clean the grids and return the BBQ cover to protect from weather

Coffee Machine

Our coffee machine is available to use. Here are a few quick instructions

  1. After turning on, place the grind holder under the grinder and depress for 15 – 20 seconds (shown on the counter). Remove and press the coffee grounds.
  2. Lock the grind holder into place by lifting and rotating anticlockwise.
  3. Wait until the machine is warm and both lights are showing, then press either single, double, or manual button to make coffee.
  4. Milk can be frothed using the adjacent milk warming/clothing machine. Simply add milk, press on button.

Alternative

  • A plunger is available if the coffee machine is over technical.
Takeout

Birkenhead offers a wide variety of takeaways, and can readily be ordered and delivered using the Uber Eats app.

RULES

Smoking & Vaping

Our house is smoke and vape-free. Smoking and vaping can be done on the balconies or in the backyard around the swimming pool. Please use ashtrays supplied for your butts.

Nature friendly

Our house is proudly nature-friendly. Where possible use organic controls and cleaners that do not kill or harm animals, and we respect all the animals that share our lands with us.

The two exceptions are flies and mosquitos. Feel free to use these to control them at your desire. Just ensure that when spraying that the pets are outside.

Quiet times

Paris Place is positioned in a secluded area, but we do have neighbours with young families. Please keep any music at moderate levels after 10 pm.

Cleaning

We do appreciate if you can leave our home in the same state that you found it. Specifically with regards to cleaning before checking out, we would ask

  1. Dishes are loaded into the dishwasher and a cycle is put on to run. We are happy to unload it
  2. Linin – Please remove the lining from beds that have been used and leave it on top of the beds. Also, leave any towels that have been used on the bed.
  3. Rubbish – Please remove your rubbish bins and load them into the plastic bins outside (large is recycling, small is for landfill).

KEYS / ACCESS

Keys

Upon arrival, the keys to the front door will be attached to the small clay chicken roosting in the pot plant on the right-hand side of the front door.

At checkout, please lock the front door and return the keys to the chicken – she missed them!

Check in

Our official check-in time is 1.00 PM. If you arrive early, and we are still at home, you are welcome to store your luggage and then return to check-in at 1.00pm once we have left.

Check-out

Check-out time is 10.30 AM on checkout day. We appreciate it if you respect this to ensure rooms can be cleaned and prepared.

TECH STUFF

Heat Pumps

Heatpumps are controlled by the white remotes located close to them. To turn the heat pump on, simply hit the yellow button in the top centre. Use the mode button to toggle through heat, dry, cool, fan, auto etc. Then use the up/down arrows to select the preferred temperature.

PETS

Depending on our previous discussions, we may leave one or more of our pets with you during your stay. If we have agreed on our pets staying, here are the details of their care.

Nika - Black Lab

Nika is an 8yo black lab that is full of love, but can be a little shy to begin with for strangers. Do not worry, a quick tummy rub and chest scratch will turn her into your friend for life.

Nika is fed out the back (in funky slow eat bowl) once a day in the morning – typically around 7 – 8am. Her food is a scoop of dry food, and then some chopped pet meat from the roll in the fridge.

Nika loves a small walk in the afternoon, but if you cannot manage this, no worries!

Nika may limp slightly with her back left leg – this is unfortunately age related, so don’t worry if you see her limp in cold mornings.

Nika sometimes needs a bathroom break in the night, so please ensure the back door is left ajar for her.

Clooney - the Ginger

Clooney is a large, warm and cuddly ginger (sort of). He was rescued a few years ago and is a lovey member of our house and our son Finn’s cat.

Cloony is mostly self-reliant and will come and go as he pleases through the back catflap.

Clooney eats dry food only, and we put out a handful off food a couple of times a day, usually when he slides on up to us with a little smile and a meow.

Mango - the fishmongers alley cat

Mango is a Mozambique native and possibly one of the world’s most well-travelled cats, following mum around for the past 13 years.

These days, she mostly enjoys living indoors and seeking out spots of sun that remind her of her time in tropical Mozambique.

Fi – you need to write this!

TRANSPORT

Parking

Please park on the verge on the opposite side of the driveway to the house. We have placed gravel down to ensure your car will not get stuck or slip.

Buses

The nearest bus stop is a 7-minute walk to Mokoia road. To access the bus, you will need an AT Hop card.
