Our staff all live on the premises and can be contacted at all times. We do, however, ask that you respect their off times and only contact staff after hours (17:00 – 07:00) in case of an emergency or a late check-in.

From George

1. Take the N2 towards Mossel Bay.

2. Exit at Mossel Bay off-ramp (Board 393).

3. Turn right at the T-junction.

4. Drive 2.8 km up the hill.

5. Look for a large 3-story white house (our guesthouse – fly me to the moon) on the left side of the road. The guesthouse’s gate entrance is the second entrance directly adjacent to the guesthouse.

6. Locate the intercom on the right-hand side of the gate to contact our hostess, who will open the gate

From Cape Town

1. Take the N2 towards Mossel Bay.

ACCESS / CHECKIN

Gate Access

Access through the main gate is run by an online cellular and remote system. On arrival, please press the intercom button, and our hostess will remotely open the gate for you. Drive up the driveway and park your vehicle in one of the parking bays.

If you arrive after hours, the host or hostess may take a couple of minutes to walk to the guesthouse from their private accommodation to welcome you. Please be patient and feel free to start unloading whilst they arrive. 

Door entrance

Access the guesthouse through the front or scullery (side) door. These doors are keyless with codes.

  • ACCESS CODE – This will be given at check-in

Once the code is entered, turn the knob anticlockwise to open door

Room / property access
  • Each room has an individual key. These are issued to you at check-in. Please return at checkout. In addition, a remote will be issued to open and close the property’s main gate

KEY TIMES

Checkin / checkout

Check-in – Check-in time is 2.00 PM. If you arrive early, you are welcome to store your luggage and then enter your room as soon as our staff have finished preparing it for you.

Check out – Checkout time is 10.30 AM. We appreciate it if you respect this to ensure rooms can be made ready for new guests.

Quiet times

The guesthouse requires quiet times between 10.00 PM and 7.00 AM. This ensures all guests visiting us are respected and can enjoy a wonderful night’s sleep.

If you experience noise disruption during quiet times, please contact staff (WhatsApp or radio) to engage with a noisy guest on your behalf. 

Breakfast times

Home exchange does not include catering; however, you are welcome to join other guests for breakfast at a cost of R150pp.

Full breakfast is served between 7.00 AM and 9.30 AM. If you sleep in, and are staying over, we are happy to serve you until 10.30 AM

Security

Beams

The guesthouse grounds are fitted with security beams that are set each evening from 23h30 to 06h00. The beams do not cover the balconies or front carpark area.

If you intend to use the grounds between these times, please inform the guesthouse staff so that we can modify our emergency response should you activate the beams.

Emergency Radio

In cases of emergency, we have an additional measure of an open frequency radio available for guests to contact staff. This radio is located at the reception desk. To use – simply press the button on the left-hand side, and speak. Your message will be broadcast to all members of the staff who are available to offer support.

AV MEDIA

Netflix
  • All rooms at the guesthouse offer Netflix. Please access on the television remote
SABC+
  • Enjoy the best of South Africa’s local sports, news, soap and live TV on SABC+ streaming service.
Youtube
  • All rooms at the guesthouse offer youtube and youtube music. These can be accessed through your room’s television controllers.
X-Box
  • You will find a gaming nook in the Fern suite. This is fitted with an Xbox One and various games for you or your children’s entertainment.

Facalities

Boules court
  • Look outside, and you may see a strange sandpit-type structure. This is a BOULES court – a French game similar to lawn bowls. The BOULE set is located in the structure next to the court, along with a set of rules. Feel free to enjoy playing boules at any time.
Games lounge
  • On the top floor, you will find a lounge dedicated to reading and board games. Feel free to plunge into a competitive game of chess or any of the various games located in the lounge.
Plunge pool
  • Although we don’t have a full swimming pool, we have converted our spa into a cool plunge pool perfect for hot summer days. You will find the pool in the front yard on the left-hand side next to the guesthouse.  Head on down to cool off at any time, the pool is kept clean and usable throughout the summer

ANIMALS / WILDLIFE

Coleman - the Cat
  • Coleman is our resident giant black cat. He is gentle, and loving and enjoys a good scratch behind the ears. Please feel free to play with him and give him all the love you want. However, please keep him out of your private room, Some guests are highly sensitive to cat hair and this can upset their enjoyment of the guesthouse. Also please do not feed him (as you will see from his size) we feed him plenty enough food!

Room SPECIFIC

Room 3 - Kenya

Balcony Door – We keep the door to the communal balcony locked for security and privacy purposes. If you wish to enjoy the communal balcony, please simply exit your room and access the balcony by its main sliding door.

Suite 7 - Fern Suite

Windows/doors – Due to the suite being on the ground floor, we have added extra security. This includes perspex bars and deadbolts on the sliding doors. In addition, some windows a bolted closed. Please feel free to open sliding doors during the daytime, but leave keys in the lock and ensure that they are locked in the evenings.

Separate entrance – You will find that you can use the sliding doors as a separate entrance to the suite. Many guests enjoy this, and if you are parking in the lower parking spot, you can readily access your vehicle through the separate entrance.

Braai – Outside the suite, you will find a private garden and a braai with all the braaiing facilities. Please feel free to use this,s but ensure that it is watched at all times and that you see the fire extinguisher placed just inside the sliding door.

Fishtank – The suite is also home to a large fish tank full of African Cichlids. Please don’t worry about feeding the fish, our staff do this daily. If the tank is a little noisy, just let our staff know and they will top up water levels to ensure minimal splashing.

Honesty Bar

The guesthouse offers two honesty bars full of snacks and drinks – one is located in the main dining area, and one on the third-floor games lounge. To enjoy snacks from this bar, please ensure that you write down what you take, your name and room number. This will be added to your bill for payment at the time of checkout

Coffee Stations

Each room has a coffee station with coffee, tea, rusks, milk and sugar. These are replenished daily. Please freely enjoy these

Breakfast menu

Home exchange guests can enjoy our guesthouse’s breakfasts at R150pp payable at the time of checkout. Just let our hostess know that you will be joining us for breakfast.

Braai facilities

The guesthouse has two outdoor braai facilities that guests are free to use in the evening. Simply let our staff know that you would like to braai, and they will give you braai utensils for cooking. You are also welcome to use the guesthouse cutlery, plates and bowls for your braai. We simply ask that you rinse the dishes and leave them in the scullery when you are finished.

Order takeout

Mossel Bay has several takeouts in close vicinity to the guesthouse. Several delivery services can also deliver takeout to you in the evenings. Guests are free to use microwaves, cutlery, and dishes for evening meals. We simply ask that you rinse your dishes and place them in the scullery when finished. View takeaway options here

RULES

Smoking & Vaping

The guesthouse is smoke and vape-free. Smoking and vaping can be done on the numerous balconies around the guesthouse where you can find ashtrays available for your use.

Nature friendly

Our guesthouse is proudly nature-friendly. We use organic controls and cleaners that do not kill or harm animals, and we respect all the animals that share our lands with us (flies and mosquitos are the exceptions).

If you encounter a spider or any creepy crawly that makes you feel uncomfortable, please ask our staff. They are experts at capturing and translocating all creatures back into the wild.

Fires

Our farmlands are susceptible to brush fires, as such, we have strict rules regarding open fires on the facilitates.

  • We permit braais on the two dedicated braais at the rear of the guesthouse. We require that such braais have a person supervising them at all times and that the fire extinguisher remains nearby.
  • We permit smoking on the balconies of the guesthouse and require guests to use fireproof ashtrays to dispose of butts.
  • No other open flames are permitted inside or outside of the guesthouse.

BUSINESS CENTRE

Hotdesks

The guesthouse offers a dedicated shared workspace for all guests to use freely. The business centre is located along the hall from the kitchen. If you wish to use the centre, please ask staff to open the business centre for your access.

Printing
  • The guesthouse offers complimentary printing of documents (reasonable use applies). The wireless printer can be connected to your device/laptop in the business centre.

Airport Shuttles

If you require a shuttle to or from George Airport. Our staff can assist you with a shuttle for a cost of R250pp. Please book in advance.

Free Restaurant Shuttles

Mossel Bay offers free pickup and dropoff evening shuttles to a select number of local eateries. To book the shuttle, first book a table at your chosen restaurant (see options below), secondly phone shuttle and tell them the restaurant and time of your booking. Shuttle number –  044 6906390
